Business Need / Purpose of Role

Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs stationary machinery and mechanical equipment.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Install, align, take apart and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctions
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and programmable logic controls
  • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes or grinders, to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set up of machinery
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation by using hand and power tools and welding equipmentOther duties as requested or required
    • Must have basic knowledge of Critical Safety Devices and their purpose.
    • Must understand all Permit Systems.
    • Demonstrate the ability to accurately complete all work related documents.
    • Understand basic operating principles for all plant machinery.

Measurements:  Safe, timely and accurate completion of assigned duties.  Continual learning.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  This position may mentor up to two apprentices at a time.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey(man) Millwright Provincial Trade Certification.

 

LANGUAGE:  

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  Fluent in English.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret schematic drawings, procedure changes, and work orders.

Machine shop environment.  Must be able to wear steel toed safety shoes with metatarsal protection, safety glasses and hearing protection. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Overtime requests can be expected by the employee to meet operational requirements.
