Business Need / Purpose of Role

As part of one of the top 6 pump manufacturers in the world, Weir Minerals - a division of Weir Canada Inc. – operates in markets including power generation, oil/gas, water and sewage, mining and minerals processing and pulp & paper. Weir’s high duty pumping units and systems include Warman, Linatex, GEHO, ASH, Hazleton, Galigher, Multiflow, Floway, Wemco, Rubber Engineering and are used in many of the most demanding industrial applications. 

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:


  • Supervise, mentor, and coach Operational Finance Managers and/or other assigned staff
  • Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen
  • Lead and perform quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets as well as preparing analyses and reports on forecast results as required.
  • Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of various financial statements, reports, forecast and budget estimates for the Minerals Canada Business Unit within established deadlines.
  • Actively participate and assist in the interpretation of various financial reports for management comparing actual versus projected results and explaining variances
  • Prepare financial and economic analysis projects and interpret results for management
  • Undertake special analytical studies such as the identification of trends or the evaluation of current control systems
  • Assist in the formulation of long and short-term capital and operating plans.
  • Ensure to the extent possible that financial activities are in line with Weir Group policies.
  • Provide management with accurate and timely information necessary to make strategic investment and operating decisions.
  • Responsible for developing models and forecasts relating to the business and for evaluating overall financial conditions against the market.
  • Play a leading role in the development of yearly operating plans and budgets including profit planning, sales forecasts, expense budgets, accounts receivable, cash management, standard/variable manufacturing costs matrixes and capital investments with necessary controls and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Periodically analyses product/service pricing/costs to determine profitability by product/service and by customer.
  • Assists in the development of the long range strategic plan in line with Group’s and Divisional expectations
  • Confer with peers and direct reports to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives
  • Take a leadership role in the recruitment of staff and training programs, conduct performance evaluations and recommends salaries of assigned staff where applicable.
  • Makes technically authoritative recommendations in interpreting and communicating the financial implications of operations.
  • Makes decisions regarding the planning and coordination of work of department staff where applicable.
  • Maintains positive relations and assists key leaders within the Minerals global organization with Finance related issues, reporting and analysis.
  • Ensures that all reporting and related variance analysis is completed with input and review from all Finance Leadership.
  • Builds a well-functioning Finance Team environment with high levels of employee moral
  • Ensures confidentiality of required matters.
  • Ensure the Director of Finance, Weir Minerals Canada is apprised of all financial matters that may affect the Canadian operations
  • Support treasury / hedging requirements through monthly forecasting of foreign currency exposure.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


Prior management or supervisory experience within a fast-paced finance and accounting department. University graduate in Business Administration (Finance Focus) or Commerce and minimum of ten (10) years of related, progressive experience. Accounting Designation REQUIRED. A good mix of cost accounting and general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Communication Skills:

Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information as required by law. Excellent self-motivation, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.


Computer Skills:

Excellent computer skills along with literacy with Microsoft Excel and Word software are required. Strong knowledge of ERP or SAP or Movex accounting software.

Work Environment:

Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while producing high quality, accurate, and meticulous work.      Ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as within a team is essential.
