    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    An experienced and highly self-motivated financial analyst is needed for a full-time position. This role contributes to the cyclical financial planning and analysis processes within the organization, including forecast, budget, interpretation of financial reports, and assist other functions within finance team.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    The incumbent will be responsible for performing complex finance and accounting assignments requiring highly developed analytical skills, technical accounting knowledge and business acumen. Duties include but are not limited to:

     

    • Assist with the preparation, consolidation and analysis of monthly financial results for up to 5 business divisions and other reports/estimates for the Minerals Canada Business Unit within established deadlines
    • Participate in full cycle accounting and forecasting of capital assets and inventory
    • Responsible for the timely review of expense variances to budget/ forecasts and balance sheet accounts
    • Maintain and prepare records for all month-end journal entries and account reconciliations
    • Assist in monitoring compliance with company policy and procedures
    • Perform non-routine assignments and special projects requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen
    • Coordinate requests for internal and external audits, tax compliance, Statistics Canada etc
    • Support Accounts Payable function during the month-end process
    • Participating in ongoing internal compliance testing
    • Performing the loading of monthly financial data from local ERP software into the Group reporting software (Cognos) 
    • Balance Sheet account reconciliations
    • Participate in statutory reporting as per Group guidelines

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education/Experience:
    Bachelors of Business Administration or Commerce (with a Finance and Accounting Focus) and a minimum of five years progressive experience in relevant finance and accounting roles. A good mix of cost accounting and general accounting experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment would be an asset. Strong analytical and problem solving skills and a significant interest and ability to understand and question what is behind the numbers.

     

    Individual Characteristics: 
    Excellent self-motivation, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while maintaining excellent composure and producing high quality, accurate, and meticulous work. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as within a team is essential. Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to maintain a high level of ethical behaviour and confidentiality of information as required by law.

     

    Language:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts and data relevant to financial statements, including ratio and calculations such as interest, proportions, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills, including literacy with Microsoft Excel and Word software are required. Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP is an asset).

     

    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills: 
    Professional designation would be an asset, but is not required. The ideal candidate should be enrolled and demonstrated commitment to achieving a professional designation in the near future.

     

    Physical Requirements:
    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

     

    Work Environment:
    The incumbent will operate within a generally quiet office environment, with light to moderate traffic and noise disturbances. If required, occasional visits to manufacturing sites will require appropriate PPE.
