  • Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Weir Marine Engineering currently has a challenging opportunity for an Electronic Engineer.  This permanent position is based at the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) in LaSalle, Québec.  NETE is a Department of National Defense (DND) facility that Weir has managed and operated on behalf of the Government of Canada since 1953.  NETE activities supports the Canadian Navy and DND in a wide variety of technical areas.


    The Electronic engineer will be a member of the Electronics, Measurement and Control group within the Testing & Infrastructure Support Section, and will report to the department’s head. 

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities



    • Design of custom electronic Data Acquisition Systems.
    • Data collection both in-house and occasionally in the field including ships and submarines.
    • Programing of Control Systems, in various languages.
    • Manage Data Acquisition Equipment, including maintenance and calibration.
    • Installation of sensors for Shock, Vibration, Sound, Strain, Temperature, Pressure, Flow and Electrical parameters.
    • Working with multi-disciplinary team of Engineers and Technologists to provide electronic measurement and data acquisition systems solutions.
    • Ability to work with a remote team.

    Skills Needed:

    • Good technical skills and experience with design of prototypes and custom test rigs.
    • Ability to execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
    • Excellent organizational skills with attention to details and quality.
    • Excellent manual dexterity.
    • Knowledge of ISO Quality System requirements
    • Knowledge of Labview is an asset.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


    • Successful completion of a bachelor degree related to electronic engineering
    • Five (5) years relevant experience in an electronic engineering environment



    Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors and clients


    Computer Skills:

    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Must gradually become proficient in the use of the organization’s Cost and Schedule Performance Measurement System (C/SPMS)


    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills:

    Eligible to obtain a Government of Canada security clearance (requires Canadian citizenship and 10 years of residence in Canada).


    Physical Requirements:


    Must be in good physical condition to be able to access all areas of the facility to take measurements, conduct inspections and fulfill the key responsibilities.


    Work Environment:

    A combination of office and shop environments. Occasionally required to perform work in the field.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
