    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    The Cost Controls Officer will assist in the project implementation and report generation of the project management department. He/She will provide overall cost control and schedule support, monitoring and analysis on one or more major complex projects.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Support all Project Managers by executing all order entry into the M3 ERP system for all Engineered Products. Creates and executes Purchasing Proposals, through the M3 system to Purchasing.
    • Track all costs associated with all projects on an ongoing basis and develops clear and concise reports for Project Management to review.
    • Work in compliance to the ISO9001 Product Realization Key Processes for Engineered Products within Weir Minerals.
    • Provide timely and accurate responses to requests for information on Project Cost status vs. Budget.
    • Conduct detailed forensic analysis at the end of projects to discern reasons and rationales for cost variances from Budget.
    • Manage updates to the Production Log and M3 Order Book to ensure it is an accurate reflection of the current status of the project.
    • Police Invoicing of project milestones and advises Project Management of any pending Invoices due to overdue.
    • Perform function of “Receiving” items in M3 for product that is “Shipped Direct” from fabrication facilities or sub-vendors.
    • Maintain a link between the Job Costing Log and M3.
    • Maintain the projects dashboard
    • Act as a back-up to document controller
    • Track and update all POC type orders on a monthly basis and supply relevant information to Finance
    • Review all Eng and PM hours on a weekly basis in Time Tracker and ensure these hours are entered in M3
    • Other duties as assigned

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education/Experience: Preferably in Business Administration or Industrial Engineering Technology. CPA or CMA designation. 5 years of experience in cost control and analysis on construction or industrial product projects.  Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be an asset.


    Interpersonal skills:  The job requires providing and obtaining specific information in order to understand the needs of the other party and provide appropriate explanations. Obtains and provides information to understand client’s needs.


    Autonomy: The incumbent works within the boundaries of clear objectives and is subject to performance assessment. He/she interprets his/her latitude, obtains the necessary guidelines and adapts work methods, procedures or techniques to perform the assigned work. Exceptional situations are resolved with the guidance of a resource person. Works independently with little supervision and able to make and implement sound decisions - escalated only when complex or outside of established procedure.


    Computer Skills: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Proficient use in working with the company MRP/ERP systems and MS Outlook
