    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    This senior Finance role works collaboratively with the Finance Director and Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to ensure that all deliverables of the Finance team are completed with high quality in a timely manner.  This role oversees a staff of approximately 9 people and he/she must create an enjoyable, productive and highly functioning team.  This position is part of Weir Minerals with a shared services responsibility, servicing other Weir entities. 

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Finance Director, Weir Minerals, the incumbent will:

     

    • Supervise, mentor, and coach all team members
    • Ensure Finance team works under a high energy, productive environment with high levels of communication and transparency
    • Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen
    • Ensure all requirements under existing shared services agreements with other Weir entities are met or exceeded
    • Actively seek feedback from internal and external stakeholders, implement process improvements
    • Ensure that the goals set out on the Finance Lean Scorecard are monitored and specific action is taken to improve performance
    • Participate in the preparation and review of quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets as well as the related analyses and reports.
    • Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of financial statements, reports and performance estimates for the Minerals Canada Business Unit within established deadlines, ensure all checklists are updated and utilized
    • Complete all Group and Divisional monthly close and reporting requirements including monthly flash, MD report and Cognos/TM1 update
    • Interpret financial reports for management comparing actual versus projected results and explaining variances
    • Prepare financial and economic analysis projects and interpret results as required
    • Undertake special analytical studies such as the identification of trends or the evaluation of current control systems
    • Ensure all account reconciliations are completed and reviewed, analysis is detailed and actions taken as needed prior to end of the month
    • Ensure appropriate and effective controls are in place
    • Work with the internal and external auditors as required
    • Responsible for all statutory reporting requirements
    • Ensure all tax related matters are completed, utilize third party experts as needed
    • Actively participate in the 2018/19 transition to SAP, ensure smooth transition within Finance
    • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions
    • Other duties as required

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

    Prior management or supervisory experience within a fast-paced finance and accounting department. University graduate in Business Administration (Finance Focus) or Commerce and minimum of (10) years of related, progressive experience. Accounting Designation REQUIRED. Additional education or designations is considered an asset. A good mix of cost accounting and general accounting experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset. Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma is an asset

     

    Individual Characteristics:  

    Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while producing high quality, accurate work. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as within a team is essential. Excellent self-motivation, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.

     

    Language:

    Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

     

    Computer Skills:

    Excellent computer skills in a Windows environment. Strong knowledge of an ERP or SAP accounting software.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Exceptional ability to work with mathematical concepts and data relevant to financial statements, including probability and statistical inference, ratio, and calculations such as interest, proportions, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
