    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Reporting to the General Manager of Specialty Rubber Products, The Production Manager will work collaboratively with the Day Shift Production Managers, Sales, and Shipping/Receiving supervisor.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities


    • Managing and directing overall night shift production at the Surrey BC facility. Products include fabricated steel structures, pressure piping and rubber lined pipe.
    • Establishes and communicates and measures the employee`s performance.
    • Conduct performance reviews and manage staff utilizing the Weir PDP process.
    • Directing the strategic planning and coordination of production decisions including scheduling, slotting and capacity planning.
    • Puts in place strategies to increase efficiency and high quality standards all while optimizing costs
    • Responsible for the management and execution of the operations, responsibility in accordance with the Quality Operating system.
    • Initiate and follow up with inspection NCR, CAPA.
    • Prepare purchase requisitions to satisfy shop and warehouse consumable in accordance with company policy and any negotiated terms and conditions.  
    • Direct contact for emergency co-ordination as required.
    • Development and support of risk assessments / procedures / safe systems of work.
    • Working closely with staff and EHS coordinator to ensure safe work practice and improvements for staff and contractors, assist with the investigation and documentation of accidents and near misses and responsible for the follow up to ensure that effective corrective actions are implemented.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager.

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Technical Degree/Diploma focused on Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration OR equivalent mix of relevant technical education and experience.
    • Must be familiar with and have a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations (BC)
    • Certification in JHSC would be an asset.
    • Minimum of 8 years related experience in a steel fabrication, pressure piping, rubberlining or other related manufacturing.
    • Minimum of 8 years leading or managing a highly skilled mechanical and skilled trade environment, within a fast pace environment that may involve multi-shift operations or at a field location within an assigned geographic area.
    • Strong communication skills both verbal and written (in English).
    • Exposure to engineering, sales and manufacturing audiences is considered an asset.
    • Knowledge of Steel Fabrications, Pressure Piping, Welding, Machining.
    • Familiarity and experience with ISO9001, 14001, OHSAS-18001, Lean, and Kaizen
    • Knowledge of the management of risks and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with established controls
    • Excellent planning, execution, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Project management knowledge or experience would be considered an asset.
    • Advanced computer skills required (ERP/MRP, Microsoft Office / Windows)
    • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.


    Work Complexity & Major Relationships

    • Work is assigned in the form of manufacturing orders with defined delivery dates and high level strategic goals.
    • Capable of managing multiple jobs with concurrent fabrication, assembly/repairs and larger manufacturing projects and initiatives of complex and novel nature.
    • Able to exercise influence over team members working within a custom fabrication environment, the operations teams, management team, and corporate level.

    • Establishes standard operating procedures with focus on Lean concepts and Customer Satisfaction.
