    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Weir Minerals Canada requires a Millwright with experience with rotating equipment to join our growing team, responsible for assembly, repair, and overhaul of pumps, and other rotating mineral processing equipment.  Journeyman Millwrights will be considered depending on specific job requirements.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities


    • Read engineering blueprints and schematic CAD drawings to determine work procedures when assembling, dismantling, and/or overhauling of rotating equipment and other machinery
    • Assemble, install, repair, and service pumps, hydrocyclones and other slurry equipment
    • Effectively utilize various precision tools and measuring instruments such as Vernier caliper, micrometers, levels, gauge blocks and other tooling as required
    • Apply mechanical ability and aptitude to perform installations, start-up, maintenance and troubleshooting both in the manufacturing / pump plant and in the field/customer sites when required
    • Perform all duties while respecting and following safety procedures and using provided personal protective equipment
    • Provide field service in a professional and experienced level showing commitment to the project and confidence in their workmanship
    • Mentoring of junior millwrights and apprentices and willingness to teach
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


    • 3-month probationary review

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    A Millwright, with experience with assembly, repair, and overhaul of pumps and mechanical rotating equipment is required. For this role only an experienced journeyman will be considered.


    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence.


    Mathematical Skills:
    Ability to add, subtract multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute and understand ratio, rate, percent and to draw/interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, area, circumference, and volume, as required in interpretation of engineering drawings.


    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills: 
    Interprovincial Millwright licence

    Drivers licence with clean Abstract

    NORCAT training will be provided or updated as needed


    Physical Requirements:
    Employee must be able to work while standing and/or sitting, and occasionally lifting equipment of up to 25 lbs. Ability to handle mechanical tools and measuring devices is required. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required in designated locations.

    Driving service trucks and associated construction equipment experience is an asset


    Work Environment:
    Environment may vary from moderate (warehouse/light traffic environment) to loud (manufacturing plant /customer-sites).(Mine site on regular intervals throughout the year)

    Regional Specific Job Information (if applicable)

    Sudbury is the location of our main service center where this position is located. Regular travel by company vehicle to mine sites and customer locations is required. Travel represents about 40% of the time required to be away from home. Some interprovincial work for shut downs is available to the applicant throughout the year.
