    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    To ensure compliance with the Health & Safety, and Transportation legislation. Ensure employees are properly trained in accordance with Weir Pressure Control standards. Ensure accuracy in daily, monthly and yearly audits.

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

    • Develop short and long range plans to improve the effectiveness of systems and processes while ensuring compliance with customer, corporate, governmental and third-party safety & environmental standards, ensuring robust, timely data collection, monitoring, and analysis for any and all reportable metrics.
    • Train new hires on procedures including handbooks / workbooks and lead the creation, implementation, and continual update of SH&E training.  Establish procedures for training employees.  Ensure the development and maintain resource information.  Provide regular training to employees in partnership with team leaders and managers on all shifts
    • Ensure all drivers are trained and meet requirements set by Transportation legislation
    • Incident Management and Investigation
    • Undertake corrective and preventative measures to ensure a proper environment and health for the organization
    • Compliance and Enforcement of all Health, Safety, and Environmental Issues
    • Lead Weir sustainability efforts by developing and implementing processes designed to reduce energy usage and overall carbon footprint.  Ensure proper corporate reporting and drive projects across the Weir Oil & Gas business.
    • Advise employees and management on minimizing and eliminating workplace/Safety Health & Environmental risks.  Ensure policies and procedures are established, prepared, implemented, revised, and maintained to meet current and known future Safety,Health and Environmental requirements.   
    • Certifies regular preparation of all emergency drills and emergency response methods
    • Coordinates staff in the Company, Client, and Third Party Identification issues through ISNET World and Comply Works
    • Recommend Capital Expenditures for acquisition of new equipment to further increase efficiency and safety within the organization
    • Research, analyze and implement methods to improve logistical needs Documentation, tracking, and statistical reporting, required by Transportation legislation
    • Compliance requirements of Alberta Transportation which require daily monitoring of Logs, Maintenance records
    • Ensures all dispatchers are compliant with the rules and regulations of Alberta Transportation
    • Maintain timely and effective communication with employees, in order to provide positive feedback to motivate good, safe performance, ensure that all employees have current and accurate information required for safe job performance, and have access to training and development opportunities (Ex. through safety committees, staff meetings etc.)
    • Plan and conduct/direct facility audits of facilities and recommend actions for the correction of hazardous situations.  Conduct/direct operational audits of required SH&E related documentation to ensure compliance.  Prepare/ensure audit result reports and follow up on remediation required 
    • Continue to drive positive behavior across organization through Weir Zero Harm principles and safe work practices
    • Champion proactive programs to drive leading indicators and incident prevention based on the Hierarchy of Control. Lead initiative to analyze and mitigate risk and communicate with facilities on improvement efforts.
    • Provide Return to Work Coordination between WCB, Claims management provider and employees

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience: 

    High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably in an oil-related industry. Must possess strong knowledge base on the Transportation laws. Additional course work in HSE and Transportation considered a strong asset. Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base in the area of Transportation and Safety will be required. 

      

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, requests, requisitions, and sales orders. Ability to write reports and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers or clients. Must possess excellent communication skills. Strong attention to detail, time management, and organization skills are mandatory. 

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

      

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of and deal with several abstract and concrete variables where only limited standardization exists.

    Regional Specific Job Information (if applicable)

    This position includes travel to service centers and field locations through Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.  Previous experience with Field Service work an asset.
