This role is a 4-month co-op or internship opportunity for an Engineering student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.
The Engineering Co-op will be responsible for supporting the Weir Minerals Canada Engineering and Project Management department with technical documentation and analysis, basic engineering design, calculations and project tasks, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards in meeting customer requirements within expected timelines.

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution, pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science or Engineering, ideally in their third or fourth year of mechanical, structural, or related specialization. Chemical or Process Engineering students may be considered, with relevant interest or experience.
Prior exposure to 3D and 2D CAD packages (Siemens NX, Solid Works, AutoCAD) and basic knowledge of mechanical and structural design, materials, welding, casting, machining and assembly would be considered an asset.
Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional documents, business communications, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of colleagues, clients, customers, and suppliers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Proficient user of Microsoft Office, including Excel or Spreadsheet knowledge. Auto CAD or other 3D modeling software would be an asset.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations, Special Skills: Student member or eligible to become a member at a Professional Engineering Association. Desire to pursue P Eng.
Physical Requirements: The employee must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as lift up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment: Primarily office environment. The student will be required to work on the shop floor to complete assigned R&D projects/tasks, and to gain exposure to the type of work being completed in our facility.
