    Business Need / Purpose of Role

    Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in commercial or industrial establishments by performing the following duties. This is the expert level position in the maintenance department. This is the intermediate level position in the maintenance department.

     

    Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

    Including but not limited to:

     

    Learn the following advanced concepts of maintenance:

    • Understand the operation of each component of Mills, Lathes, Grinders, Saws, Presses, Bridge and Jib cranes, and be able to measure and size replacement parts for each properly
    • Good working knowledge of the plants Fire Safety equip and requirements
    • Successful completion of minimum of 3 external maintenance related training seminars or courses

    Develop the following advanced proficiencies of maintenance:  

    • Demonstrate ability to perform any required mechanical repairs to all plant equip.  Verification of axis alignments, hydraulic operations interpret mechanical cross sectional drawings,  proper installation of precision bearings
    • Demonstrate ability to perform safe equipment rigging for lifting or hoisting using chain hoists or overhead cranes
    • Be able to identify motor full load amperages and determine proper fuse and thermal overload protection
    • Demonstrate ability to trouble shoot common motor control center problems
    • Demonstrate ability to perform diagnostic tests on motors with meggers and ohmmeters, precision measuring with calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators
    • Be able to read wiring diagrams and PLC ladder logic, and be able to demonstrate trouble shooting of common problems

    Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

     High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  Third year HD Technician or Millwright Provincial Trade Certification.

     

    Language Skills :

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret schematic drawings, procedure changes, and work orders.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Employees are required to reach, push, pull, climb stairs/ladders, work on even and uneven ground/surfaces.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

    Machine shop environment.  Must be able to wear steel toed safety shoes with metatarsal protection, safety glasses and hearing protection. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Overtime requests can be expected by the employee to meet operational requirements.
